Newborns
Newborn sessions are scheduled during the first 5-10 days following birth and are normally held in your home using soft, natural light. After 14 days, newborns slowly “shed” their newborn traits and begin to take on more familiar baby characteristics so it’s important to schedule your newborn session as early as possible.
Things to keep in mind for your session:
Time – Is there really such a thing as a schedule when you’re this new? Nope. So please be sure to free up your morning or afternoon and allow up to 2 hours (or more) for your session. Babies will need to eat, be changed, sometimes props may need a cleaning because accidents happen, so it’s best to keep your schedule open for a minimum of 2 hours.
Warmth – It’s a cold world out here and even more so when we take away the warm blankets and clothes so please make sure (even if it’s the middle of July!) that your home is warm and cozy. A small portable space heater can be used as well.
Tranquility – While I don’t think baby will mind normal household activities (you’ll probably want them used to daily noises anyways!) please try to limit visitors on the day of your session, if at all possible, ask to have them visit after we’re done or another day.
Props – Ahh the fun stuff! I have an assortment of my own props that I bring along with me however if you have ANYTHING at all that you want in the photos with baby then by all means bring it out! Anything with sentimental value, a blanket or hat that grandma knitted, dad’s work boots, whatever. These are your images and I want them to be unique and meaningful to you so if you have any ideas, lets talk!
For Mom and Dad – Relax.
